Nurturing My Passions - January Reads

Another goal I have for my new nontoxic life is nurturing my hobbies. One of those hobbies is reading. I love to read, but somehow never seem to have time for it. I am challenging myself to stop mindlessly scrolling through social media and to spend that time reading.

During January, I read 3 fiction books and listened to 2 non-fiction audiobooks.

  • Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West By: Gregory Maguire

I rated this book 3 stars on Goodreads. I wish I had read the book before seeing the musical or watching the movie. I knew it would be very different, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the preconceived notions out of my head. Some parts were good, some parts were weird, and some parts were downright confusing. Overall, I had to push myself to finish the book and did not really enjoy it.

  • The Drowning Woman By: Robyn Harding

I rated this book 5 stars on Goodreads. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The unexpected twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and I even gasped out loud a few times. If you're in search of a fantastic thriller, this is the one for you.

  • The Girl Who Was Taken By: Charlie Donlea

I rated this book 4 stars on Goodreads and might have rated it 5 if the ending had been more satisfying. The book was engaging and held my interest, but there were moments where the plot slowed down, and I found myself wishing it would move along more quickly.

  • The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference By: Malcom Gladwell I gave this book a 3-star rating on Goodreads. It was one of the non-fiction audiobooks I listened to. Malcolm Gladwell, known for his insightful books, presented some intriguing ideas. However, I rated it three stars as it felt a bit slow in parts.

  • The Let Them Theory By: Mel Robbins

This was the most recent non-fiction book I listened to. I gave it a 5-star rating on Goodreads because it was incredible! This should be the next book you pick up. I suggest listening to it since Mel Robbins is the narrator and she takes it to a whole other level. The concepts she presents are transformative, and I've already begun implementing them.
